A Peek at What Came Herculing Round the Crescent Today

Mr David Suchet as Hercule Poirot, The Belgian Detective in The Clocks by Agatha Christie

Sheila Webb, a typist for-hire, arrives at her afternoon appointment to find a well-dressed corpse surrounded by six clocks, four of which are stopped at 4:13.  While visiting 'Wilbraham Crescent' special branch agent Colin 'Lamb' finds Sheila running into his arms. He is there investigating areas connected with crescents or the moon while following up a clue to an investigation, left by a fellow agent, before his death, that read '61 M' follwed by a crescent shape.

Filming in the Square 26-29 May 2009

POIROT_16_2
ITV Studios (Granada productions) will be filming in Thornhill Crescent Tuesday, 26th May - Friday, 29th May.  The film, based on a book by Agatha Christie, is called The Clocks and is set in Dover in the 1930s.  One of the principal locations is a crescent where a number of houses and back gardens are featured. It will be screened on ITV. See the letter from the location manager below, for more details.

Dear Resident,

Filming – POIROT - Thornhill Crescent (EAST SIDE)  Tuesday, 26th May - Friday, 29th May
Further to my letter last month we are now finalising our plans to film scenes for Agatha Christie’s ‘Poirot’ at the end of this month in Thornhill Crescent and Barnsbury Wood. We had a positive response to the first letter and with the support of the Thornhill Square Association we identified three houses in a row on the east side of the crescent which will be the focus of our filming - No’s 23, 24 and 25.   For scheduling reasons the filming needs to take place over 4 days during which time we will move back and forth between the crescent, the wood and a couple of adjoining back gardens. On Tuesday, 26th our filming requires a night exterior featuring the east side of the crescent and we are planning to film between 1200-2300hrs.

CAR PARKING DURING FILMING DAYS.  As the film is set in the 1930’s we would like to clear cars from different parts of the crescent on different days. Islington Council cannot practically suspend specific areas for us over the four days so have decided to suspend the entire section of the east side of the crescent together with a small section on the top of the west side and some pay and display bays on Crescent Street and Bridgeman Road. We appreciate this is a sensitive issue for many residents and as such we have tried to come up with the most flexible and least disruptive arrangement. Whilst we have some scenes where we need the east side of the crescent entirely clear of cars, other scenes only need partial clearance in specific areas. When we are not filming in these areas the parking office have agreed to allow us to manage residents parking in the suspended areas. This system will be overseen by members of our location security team whose aim will be to maintain your normal parking arrangements as much as possible working within the block suspension.
Whilst we are filming in the crescent, which will include period cars on the road, we will have a traffic management company regulating the flow of traffic.  Access to the crescent will be maintained throughout each day although traffic marshals will hold any passing traffic for short periods whilst we are filming.  The police may also be in attendance.  Our technical vehicles will be parked in Bridgeman Road and in Crescent Street.
We are donating a sum of £500 to the Thornhill Square Association (http://www.thornhillsquare.typepad.com) in gratitude for your co-operation over these four days.  Jennifer Christie  (Association contact) who lives at No.19 Thornhill Crescent, will be happy to talk to any residents about how this money will be used for the benefit of the Crescent.  She can be contacted via her email: jennifer.christie@talk21.com.  We will also be donating a sum of money to the Islington Ecology Centre for use of the wood.
I will be circulating a schedule shortly that will provide further details of the where and when we will be filming in the different areas of the crescent.  In the meantime should you have any concerns about our proposals please do not hesitate to contact me, or Marieke Cook (Islington Council Film Office T: 0208 980 8771).
Kind regards,

Robin Pim

Lisa memorial service notice

Update on Memorial events for Lisa

There will be two local memorial events, one in Edward Square (of which Lisa was the founder) and one here in Thornhill Square where she lived.  The Edward Square event is on 14th November (details below from Paul Convery').  The Thornhill Square event is not yet scheduled as we are honouring Lisa with  the planting of a magnolia and the installation of a memorial bench but we don't yet know when the bench will be ready.  Once we do know, we will circulate a date.

If you would like to make a contribution towards the bench, please page down to see the previous posting.

A BIG THANKS to Anna McKane and Aron Cronin for adminstering the collection and thanks to Lisa's close friend Rupert Perry, in Huntingdon Street, for the inscription wording.

Yours ever,

Jen (Sec) and Emma (Chair)

PAUL CONVERY'S EMAIL ABOUT THE EDWARD SQUARE EVENT

The date has now been confirmed for the memorial event in Edward Square to celebrate and commemorate the life of Lisa. I apologise for the slight delay in finally settling this but we now have a date and time that seems to maximise involvement and attendance.

It will be held on Friday 14th November at around 2pm in Edwards Square. We shall have a large marquee erected, refreshments, music, art and performances arranged (so far) from the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, local schools and from Lisa friends and neighbours. Much of the organisational burden is being handled by staff in the Council's Greenspace department and we are very grateful for their contribution.

Further details will be circulated shortly and we shall be widely publicising the event throughout the neighbourhood and Borough.

Best wishes,
Paul

Lisa Pontecorvo

Lisa pontecorvo click here for more about Lisa
Lisa Pontecorvo has been killed in an accident involving a lorry,  on the Holloway Road.  Lisa was a tremendously kind person. I can't believe she's gone. She made a huge contribution to community life in this square and in Edward Square and beyond.  She befriended everyone and provided a link between the Council and its residents, often advising me on who to contact in order to resolve problems. Most importantly, she spent all of her free time working, voluntarily, to support local youth projects.  This is a tragic loss to Islington.  There will be a tribute to Lisa in The Islington Gazette this weekend.  Please pass this on to those who knew her.

NEWS:  on 11th September I received the following update from Paul Convery about a memorial event

Dear friends and colleagues,

The funeral arrangements for Lisa will shortly be announced by her family. It will probably be a ceremony for very close friends and family.

Recognising the depth of feeling and the very large number of people who will want to commemorate Lisa's life, we shall also be organising a memorial event, probably to be held at Edwards Square, a few weeks hence. In organising this event, Cllr Rupert Perry and I shall be involving a wide range of people who were close to Lisa and to the issues and activities that she was so passionate about.

Details of both the family funeral and the commemorative event will be posted at the following location shortly  www.kingscrossenvironment.com

Many friends of Lisa's have already submitted tributes and remembrances of Lisa on this site.

Finally, apologies for any cross-posting, I am sure that many recipients may have already recceived this information. I would also be very grateful if recipients might forward this information further ... in particular to other people working for/with Islington (and Camden) Council who will have known Lisa.

Best wishes
Paul
